PURE FOOD WATCH
The headline of the April 20th Courier-Post reads “N.J. beach litter reaches record high”. This brings to mind the findings of Jacque Cousteau that he could hardly find an area in the vastness of the oceans that was free from pollution. We have been told of the record levels of dangerous radiation from the Fukushima reactor complex that has been spilling into the Pacific Ocean, where fast moving currents can carry the radiation toward the US. On April 2nd, levels of radioactive iodine-131 near the water intake of the Daiichi nuclear plant were found to be 7.5 million times higher that the legal limit. In addition to the 10,000 tons of radioactive water discharged into the ocean, there is more being produced every day. But there is no need to worry, the FDA (Fudged Data Acceptable) says that north Pacific fish are unlikely to be contaminated by radioactive material because the ocean is so huge and the Alaskan fisheries are so far away that there is no realistic threat; therefore there is no need to test Pacific fish for radiation. Don’t you feel better already?
Should radioactive fallout reach the west coast, the EPA has a plan to deal with it. By increasing the allowable amount of radiation considered harmful by as much as 100,000 times the current limits, they can inform the public that ‘All radiation is below accepted limits.” Radioactive milk apparently is safe to drink, but avoid raw milk, the healthy food.
And speaking of safety, don’t you sleep easier since the Senate S.510 Food Safety Bill was passed? We were told that it would make our food safer to eat; however it turned out to be a mean joke on the US consumer. It attacked vegetables and things like raw milk and raw cheese and completely ignored the safety of meat products, which are the chief source of e.coli, which grows in animals not plants.
It is a crime that the filthy and unsanitary factory animal farms, which are breeding grounds for drug-resistant bacteria, were completely ignored. Recent studies have shown that nearly half of all fresh meat and poultry products are contaminated with potentially deadly bacteria, including multiple drug-resistant super bugs. Oh mighty FHA, where art thou? Get your head out of the sand and get your priorities straight.
